Construction Manager
Description and requirements
At Skanska, we’re shaping the way we live, work and connect. As one of the world’s largest construction and development companies, we work together with customers, communities and partners to shape a better society.
You will be working in the Building Operating Unit where Skanska is delivering Botanic Place, the construction and mechanical and electrical fit-out of a major office development in central Cambridge, alongside restoring the building shell of the former Flying Pig pub. The project will create a high-quality workplace with extensive terraces, premium internal amenities whilst targeting ambitious sustainability and wellbeing targets.
We are currently looking for a Construction Manager who will lead the delivery of CAT A floor works, ensuring each area is completed safely, on programme and to a high quality standard. You’ll oversee key elements including raised access floors, ceilings, core services distribution, life safety systems, landlord finishes, and MEP installations. Working day to day with subcontractors, you’ll plan and sequence activities across the floor plates, monitor progress, and help keep delivery on track. You’ll also work closely with the MEP and core structure teams to ensure services are installed and commissioned in line with the programme, enabling walls, ceilings, and finishes to progress smoothly and without delay.
As the Construction Manager, you will:
- Champion a strong safety culture on site, ensuring all work is delivered in a planned, controlled and fully compliant way
- Lead and manage subcontractors to deliver high-quality work in line with drawings, specifications and project standards
- Coordinate labour, materials and on-site activities to keep works running efficiently and support the wider construction team
- Monitor progress through clear reporting, identifying issues early and helping maintain programme performance
- Tackle site challenges with confidence, resolving problems quickly and sharing improvements that can enhance delivery
- Work closely with project and design teams to develop practical, cost-conscious solutions that meet site requirements and drive successful project outcomes
We are looking for:
- Experience working as a Construction Manager on projects of a similar size and complexity, ideally with a Tier 1 main contractor
- Proven track record in successfully delivering building projects to high standards with CAT A floor works experience.
- Significant site-based experience, including leading people, subcontractors and managing on-site operations
- Strong understanding of construction processes, sequencing and the practical delivery of works on site
- Construction-related qualification to HNC level or equivalent
- Member of, or working towards membership of, a recognised professional institution, with MCIOB or ICE highly desirable
What we offer:
- 24/7 digital GP service for you and your family
- Financial wellbeing and employee assistance
- Professional development
- Enhanced family benefits (including maternity, paternity, dependants and parental bereavement leave)
